While your camper’s kitchen may be small, that doesn’t mean you have to avoid it entirely! Cooking can be one of the more challenging aspects of RV travel, but we have some tips to make it easier and more enjoyable. Avoid grabbing fast food or convenience-store snacks and prepare healthy meals in your camper!

Use a Slow Cooker

Slow cookers are underappreciated by campers and it’s a real shame. This convenient and portable device can prepare a hot meal for you while you’re out fishing or hiking. Simply fill it with cuts of meat, chopped vegetables, water or broth, then turn it on and leave it to prepare your food for you. You can prepare traditional cuts of meat like a pot roast, or you can make a chili, barbeque chicken, soup, or even pasta.

Clean as You Go

Because your space is limited, it’s always best to try to clean up as you go. Put away ingredients as soon as you’re done using them. Set pans and pots aside to soak. Rinse cutting boards and knives after use. Compost vegetable scraps immediately. You’ll have much more space for food prep this way.

Cook Outside

Another great strategy is to pack a portable grill and some charcoal or build a campfire that you can use to cook outside. This is a classic way to prepare burgers, hot dogs, s’mores, fish, chicken, and vegetable kebabs.
